About heartbeat market
heartbeat Market has been helping the wider Coffs Coast community with exceptionally low cost, pre-loved and new goods plus free welfare items to assist people in need since 1989. Situated at 7 Murdock Street in the heart of the city, heartbeat Market sells second-hand men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, bric-a-brac, furniture, shoes, jewellery, garden tools, children’s toys, electrical appliances, music and entertainment CDs, DVDs and collectible vinyl record albums. In fact we sell pretty well everything, and yes, we’ve even got the kitchen sink.
We assist people in desperate need with free furniture, clothing, electrical items, household goods, fridges, dryers, washing machines, TVs, etc. (Note: some items not always in stock – depending on the generosity of donors).
All welfare assistance is done through an interview with the prospective client to ascertain their exact needs. We make a point of not making people feel embarrassed or just ‘like a number’ and recipients are met in the privacy of our City Care office located at heartbeat Market , 7 Murdock Street, in the Coffs Harbour CBD. Clients are referred to us through other agencies and will need a Centrelink Card for processing applications. (No Card? – Call us anyway and we’ll work something out!). If presenting direct at our shop in Murdock Street, please give your name and contact number to the Manager, Paul and request it be forwarded to the Welfare Officer at Head Office so we can contact you personally to arrange a convenient time for an appointment for you.
For emergency assistance, please call our welfare office: 02 6651 5130.
Volunteers
The sale of goods enables us to meet the necessities such as rent, utilities and management staff salary. The majority of personnel at heartbeat Market / Coffs City Mission are volunteers. Without their help we would not have been able to serve the public with emergency welfare assistance for the past 32 years.
Have you thought of becoming a volunteer? We have vacancies in retail, donation sorting, storeman/truck delivery. Training is provided.
Some of our volunteer staff have gone on to paid full-time employment with other places after their training and although we don’t like to lose a heartbeat ‘family member/volunteer’, we are blessed to know we are able to help them achieve some of their goals. Perhaps you need to undertake a certain number of hours each week as a part of your Centrelink requirements. Consider volunteering at heartbeat Market.
Call us today at heartbeat Market head office on 02 6651 5130 to arrange an appointment. (If the office is unattended, please leave your name and contact number and we’ll return your call.)
